Dr Gobinda KC is a veteran orthopedic surgeon and philanthropic activist. He is known in Nepal and internationally for his humanitarian work. His non-violent protests and fasts have successfully pressurized the government and stakeholders. But this time, like always, the government failed to abide by his past agreements which enforced him to stage fast-unto-death for the eighth time.
Dr KC's demands are not his personal issues nor is it determined by any political party agendas. He has raised the problem that impacts every single person in this country. These issues are connected to people from all walks of life. However, contradictory behavior of negligence and hesitance shown by the government in this critical matter clearly reflects their corrupted and bureaucratic position.
We believe that the culture of silence which we have been easily embracing in our society has obstructing us in open expression even in serious and critical matters. As a conscious citizen and an artist we are trying to be part of the critical discourse Dr KC has raised. We are highlighting this significant issue through our performance art.
We believe that contemporary art is deeply rooted in social practices and creativity can foster meaningful dialogue. Through interdisciplinary practices focused on critical subject-matters, ArTree Nepal strives to create artworks with social significance and utility.
